It has been awhile for Jasper to receive a dump of snow, it was only 14 CM, but well worth getting up early for fresh turns. Temperature was awesome and this weekend is going to be more the same.
Getting a run in on the Knob. You had to get in a line up. Some loser was trying to butt in to the front of the line, and this line is full of locals, why be that guy? We are nice Canadians, but not on powder day!
Knob was definitely soft when you got your chance to descend, even soft when you bail in the snow.
So when you line up a shot at your subject and some one photo bombs you, what do you do? On top of that, you find out they are photographers too, thanks, powderhounds.com guy!
All fun and smiles at #marmotbasin #powday.
Looking forward to this weekend, is Eagles East going to open tomorrow?
The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge maintains a skating ovals in the winter. If you ever want to skate on frozen lake, this is one of the places to do so. Natural cracks do form on lakes, so beware that it does not have a perfect surface when skating. They also clear hockey rink size areas for hockey.
It is Saturday and the deep freeze is going to be over according to various weather channels. Still it was about –19C at Marmot Basin this morning, but it did not stop the beautiful sky that happens mostly in December early in the morning.
And it did not stop the Jasper Freeride Club and the Jasper Ski Team from training. Some indoor warm ups was well received by the athletes.
The cat is seen in the daylight as Marmot Basin prepares the terrain park. Not sure when they will be ready for opening, but defintely ready for next weekend.
With cold temperatures and low snow fall, the lake ice is now perfect for skating, at least Patricia Lake. A handful of good local samaritans armed with shovels, they cleared a hockey rink and a loop path on the lake.
The temperature might be cold, but it is still great to get out and enjoy the fantastic views from the lake. If you want to warm up fast, bring a shovel and help maintain and widen the loop! Plenty of lake to play on.
Last week, we tested the lake and it was thin, this week, it is now good to go! You can even practice your fat biking for the upcoming Jasper in January event. There is snow just enough for grip where it has not been cleared.
