Was hoping for a big animal to run into literally, and lo and behold, a Moose on the side of the trail. Did not get clean photos of her, but what a sight to see. She was not even bothered by us, she just went about chewing the Usnea (Old Man’s Beard – Usnea is a type of lichen that grows on trees) off the branches in the thick forest. The conditions on the trail was just right for our cross country skis, green wax was sticky enough. We did not have to break trail, another plus in our favor. I tried to take the lake route, but it was not a good idea as the skis just sank at every step, up to my knees. Great way to spend the day!
